Fantastic. Hope they sell every one for the asking prices.

I want to know what "flat out grey " is. It looks just like Jaguar Battleship grey to me which is a Jaguar color of the period, non metallic, but was never an official E type color. Bit like Porsche Slate Grey.

Is this a flat color ? Anyone know?

The only picture which really looks like gunmetal is the one with a bag in the rear of an FHC. All the other pics look greyer and blacker than the original which had a very faint pinkish tinge to it

I have some rectangular spray out cards somewhere with Jaguar OPG,OSG,Battleship and Sherwood green, all done recently.

If I can find them I will try and post a comparative photo for opinions.

The problem is I think I put then in a book case with well over 600 books in it!

Maybe I will ask a friend to pop up the road to Ryton and ask them.

They do look lovely and I'm sure they have already been sold to people with pockets far deeper than mine.

What interests me most though is those tailor made covers. I wonder who made them?

The cover looks very much like a Classic Additions product. Their quality of product is second to none and I would certainly recommend them if you are in the market for a cover.

I painted a gearbox cover I had lying around. Couldn't find the cards.

Gunmetal on the left as you look at it, Battleship on the right.

Battleship is really dark.

That's it, James, to a T : it is the pinkish tinge which is so distinctive . the darker shades, redolent of modern Audi in particular, are in fact quite dangerous because the car merges into the tarmac and can be very difficult to see

So Christopher, do you think Battleship is close to flat out grey?

James : unfortunately, I don't remember Battleship Grey which I think was a colour which dropped out with the end of the Mark VII in about 1956. The Greys which I remember from the era we are talking about were

Cornish - a mid grey with a slightly greenish tinge ; often coupled in the mark VIII/IX cars with ( on the lower half of the car )

Mist - a pale grey whose name accurately describes it ( no German jokes please ! )

Pearl - a rich pale grey often seen on mark 2s

and later from about 1967 on Warwick grey - a beige grey which I absolutely hated on the 420G I inherited from my Father

None of them really suited the E type IMHO - indeed I always thought that the metallics were much to be preferred on Es and Mark 10s

Do we know if these are actual Outside Bonnet Lock cars that have been restored or slightly later cars made up to look like OBL cars? The reported price of c. £650K for each pair would, I believe, leave little room to source two OBL cars and then do ground-up restorations.

6 OBL FHC? Each of them would eat up almost if not all of the total budget. And I assume you won't e able to source 6 FHC OBLs for sale anyway
