#1 Aluminium strip at the bottom of the door cards

Post by Stevejaguar » Fri Apr 30, 2021 8:37 pm

Hi,
My series 1 2+2 has a 1 inch deep aluminium strip along the bottom edge of the door cards. It is held in place with csk self tappers.
I cannot find it in the parts book. Should t be there ?
Steve

Hi Steve, nice meeting up with you the other week, Barrie has just finished covering the door cards and he had bought the new ali trim strip you mention however, I think they are only about a 1/2" deep and sit about 4-ish inches from the bottom of the card. I may see him over the w/e, so I'll ask where he got them.

The doors are all finished now and even drilled the skins and fitted the key barrels thanks to the measurements we took of yours, little bit of sweating going on while doing it! but work perfectly and no scratches on the paintwork ha ha! just finishing trimming up some of the small fiddly bitsat the moment so should be fitting out the interior soon.

Thanks for the replies.
I have found a photo of the aluminium strip on my car. Its just above sill level. I do remember seeing a car with something similar many years ago. The self tappers that hold it in place go through the door card and onto the door. Seems daft to me as there are clips to hold the card in place. Just something that was fitted by a previous owner when his card and clips became soggy?

Don't think it is attatched with screws but a fastener from the back of the card so no fasteners show on the interior side, I'll double check. The doorcards previously had them fitted but were slightly damaged so he bought a pair of new by going through the parts book.

Edit: Just had a look at your pic Steve, and that seems to be the same strip.

Hopefully I will get over tomorrow and take a decent photo back & front and see if he still has the part number, he only got them recently so fingers crossed. Also I must say that they do look very good on the cards and break it up nicely.

I have just had a look at 1966 JAGUAR E TYPE S1 2+2 MANUAL UK RHD on e-blag item no 254960290343 and the interior photos plainly show the ali strip, so I am not sure what the mystery is about them?

Hi all. I have the CHROME trim that is about 4 inches above the bottom of the door . I have the clips that hold it on.
If you look at the photo I posted you will see that there is an aluminium strip about 1 inch deep that is at the bottom of the door just above the sill. Its this one that I am querying.

Ahhh, your photo is not to clear Steve but now that you have said you have the chrome strip (Which is what I mistakenly thought you were talikng about) I can just see a light coloured strip that looks to me as if it is on the sill. because I have been researching a huge amount about the interior trim, looked at hundreds of photos, I believe (In my limited experience of E's) that the strip is unique to your car and my have been added by a P/O.

Sorry if I caused confusion! :?: :?: :?:

Definitely not a Jaguar part.

If I were going to put a metal kick strip on I'd do it up to the chrome bead, hot half and half,
