True Carsten,

We used to service a manual W124 300TE petrol blue estate up to 500,000 miles and it was still on its original clutch.

Then, owner then had it restored and I think still owns it.

They are all long in the tooth now though, nothing lasts forever.

Yes - I once saw a documentary about merc in the post war years, and their Chief Developer said they had „on the road failures“ reported back to the factory, and went after each issue - every time a car failed to limp home he said they felt that as their personal failure.

Those days are gone…

Carsten, who co-owned an 123 estate, 300 turbo diesel, up to 880.000 km…. The drivers seat was done, okay, but the rest…not. The engine was a 3 liter at what, 125 horses ? Thats 42 horses / liter… the non turbo had 88 horses which of course must last forever.
