Well that was a lovely day
What a beautiful sight!
Have there ever been that many etypes together before?

Does anyone have any figures for numbers of cars attending yet?

It certainly was a great event. My son and I got there about 9:45 (we stayed in a local b ‘n’ b on Friday and left at about 6pm and were thoroughly worn out by then. Probably due to walking up and down the course a few times! Every one we spoke to reckoned we probably won’t see that many E’s in one place for a very long time. Was it similar for the 50th?
No queues for food, beer or toilets as well!!!
I saw four or five other OGS examples and one in op bronze which I thought looked superb. I parked next to another OGS with a sunroof which looked very smart.



And to cap it off, I surprised my lad by getting him a blast up the hill climb in an original racing d-type. “Best day ever” was his verdict.
The car didn’t miss a beat on the 250 mile round trip which was a bonus.

Sunday - Shelsley Walsh

It's 49 miles due south of where we live, how can it take 1.25 minutes to get there?
Actually it took us longer.
Halfway down, the right suspension started making a knocking noise when I turned right and or braked gently.
Worried it was the wheel bearings, so took it really slowly.

What a great day, watched the panel discussion which was really lively. Didn't win the £50 gift card seat prices from SNG Barratt.



Then we grabbed Julian Barratt and showed him his Fathers old E Type. What a great guy he is.


Then left my wife with Splined Hub and Alison got her a bit drunk!
Meanwhile I spotted this amazing car with KONI shocks on it belonging to Lucy.





Best bit was Julian, took my wife for a drive up the hill in their semi lightweight. Impressive burn out pre start and then he did an awesome start and shot off up the hill. She was impressed.


All in all, a great day out and the journey back what a lot better as the wishbone pivot healed its self.



Turned out it didn't just so worn the metal around the gaitor had taken up the slack enough to stop it knocking. Ordered a replacement from SNG which should be here tomorrow.

My clutch cylinder gave up the ghost 100 miles from home so had to judge traffic light timings and round abouts to avoid stopping. Managed to use third gear without to much crunching and eventually arrived home. Waiting for a slave cylinder kit from SNG to arrive to see if I can fix the problem without buying a new slave cylinder. Still enjoyed the weekend and had a good laugh with a couple of guys at the courtyard party. As usual I cannot remember their names but the game of getting the singer or group name for the music amused us.

We too had a great couple of days and then started a trip around the Cotswolds. Yesterday the clutch slave cylinder gave out, just as I came up to a junction. Did not want to try and drive the car with no clutch so spent 5+ hrs whilst the RAC sorted out a road side visit, sourcing the correct part, a tow for the car to garage and a cab to our hotel. Currently waiting for the repair to be completed, should be done in an hour.

Hopefully our trip can continue later today.

It sounds like I need to add a spare clutch slave cylinder in to my ‘emergency bag’!

Agree with all of the comments. It was a wonderful weekend. Sunshine always helps!

We thought the event had a very relaxed, gentle feel to it and we met a lot of nice people; old contacts and made new ones too.

My car had been at Angus’s beforehand for some general service items plus a couple of jobs I wanted to leave to the experts. He also recommended the steering rack mounts were stiffened up. Goodness what a difference, and with a general tune too it was a joy to drive back to Edinburgh.

Definitely an annual visit to Letchworth from now on.
