#1 What Diameter Safety Wire

What diameter safety wire is used on our Jags? 0.025” ?

Hi Mike,
You don’t specify which bolt on the car you wish to lock. It generally would depend on what size and torque of fixing you are trying to lock to prevent them undoing.
0.025” is on the thin size to me, but it needs to be a good quality lock wire.
This what I use when working on E Type back axles and brakes which is 0.032”, which once properly spun up gives a nice overall diameter :-

I agree with what Dave says and from my previous aviation experience I've seen a lot of poor or incorrect wire locking on E Type IRS. This could help you:

The original stuff on the IRS bolts is 40 thou. Not sure about the brakes and the cam bolts.

None of the wires on the E Type should ever actually see any strain, as long as you wire them correctly, as stated above. How you tie it is a lot more important than the diameter of the wire. Just pick one that goes through the holes.

I will stop into my local aircraft parts supply and pick up some proper sized safety wire.
