What’s available to maximise the silly space in a S1 Roadster’s boot?

I’m off with my woman for a week and I haven’t yet broken the news to her that we’re taking the E.

Problem is as most of you will know, a week away with a woman means a transit van wouldn’t be big enough for all the clobber.

Who does fitted luggage in soft bags maybe?

Take a tip from my American friends and DHL a box with her clothes in it to the hotel. Ladies do pack on a "what if" basis and this a way of resolving that. All unwanted clothes are then DHLed back home. The roadster's boot is free for a bottle of fizz and a tool set!

Two friends with Es.

1. Had a set of bespoke luggage, bought at the end of a long day at a show when the supplier/manufacturer wanted to get rid of his last stock item. Otherwise they are eye-wateringly expensive. I can send you a link to another one of these, with no recommendations.

2. Just happened to have a large soft sided suitcase which perfectly fitted the rectanguloid space against the rear bulkhead up to the hinge edge of the boot lid, plus some soft hold-alls to fill the trapezoidal shape under the boot lid.

Don’t forget the spaces behind the seats (handbags overnight bags) and the spaces around the spare wheel (That’s where I store tools and spare parts).

We have fitted luggage for our OTS and have managed three week tours of Europe. The secret however is to use the Hotel laundry service so you will only need to pack enough clothes for 4 days.

Unfortunately no room behind the seats as it has the hard top fitted.

Easy - remove the hood. Does not take long and reduces weight. The SNGB OTS hardtop has never had a hood and has lots of room in the cabin.

Yeah I could launch the soft top but it’s a bit of a pickle to do

An hours work. Remove the rear retaining screws holding the hood to the body. Remove the two hinge bolts, lift out hood. Attach hard top. Huge amount of room behind seats.

Not sure I would bother with the hard top, keep the hood and pack sensibly. Our rule is to have everything in the boot so we can park anywhere with the roof down and nothing on display. Worked for us over 20 years of touring. Did I mention Hotel laundry?

I’m trying to recall, I thought the hood was pinned to a strip of wood??

If I go away in mine, I tend to send the missus ahead by DHL.

Tends to make for a much more relaxing and enjoyable drive, and leaves plenty of space for luggage.....

I do find that I don’t get a whining sound from the passenger side when I’m on my own.

Maybe fit a luggage rack - many US spec cars had them fitted ( not sure if this was a factory option or whether dealers did it ). I`ve never used mine but in theory it could take a large suitcase . Not sure if you could see out of the back window though

I think I’d rather drive up in an Austin Maxi than put one of those on my car ;)

I say, steady on old fruit. There are limits to what you can say on this forum!

Incidentally I messaged Classic travelling luggage as suggested above and had zero response.

Clearly they’re too busy.

I own the business, Classic Travelling Luggage and I haven't received a message I haven't answered, although I did have one this week about E-type luggage. I'll see if I can resend my reply.

Yes, I can make cases for your S1 OTS. When are you travelling?
