#1 quarterlight window S2 S+2 Fell out - help please
As per title, while bouncing over the grass car park at Goodwood one quarterlight fell out - both were in the fixed open position.
Luckily only a chip to paintwork, window OK, but only one screw found (perhaps I was missing one)
While I can see how to offer the forward edge of the window up to the frame and then clip it closed (when screwed back in) it is worrying me that it will fall out again if left open.
There seems to be enough play in the mechanism when the window is open that there is then not much force keeping the front of the window retained in the "frame" attached to the door pillar. Please excuse the vague terminology.
Is this a normal concern? that windows may fall when open? If not the I assume my closing clip mechanism is not correct - can it be adjusted? I would welcome any thoughts or ideas from anyone please
Thank you

Hi
It certainly isn't a common problem.
Does your B post pillar have the quarterlight retaining strip in place? It is held in by 5 small countersunk screws. When fitted it forms the rearmost part of a groove for the leading edge of the quarterlight to pivot in. Without that part the window will be able to drop out.
I assume your clip is still firmly attached to the C pillar.
Regards

I really appreciate both of your bits of information and somehow my previous reply was lost. Anyway I have finally managed to get back to look at this matter and I’m pretty sure that I am missing the trim strip which should be screwed to hold the window in place.
I’m going to try to add some photographs which may make things clearer. With respect to the central chrome pillar which is just behind the door there seems to be a lip of about 5 mm making a recess where there is a rubber seal for the door to close against. Feeling on the rear side of the same chrome pillar the lip seems very much smaller and I’m assuming this is where the missing trim piece would provide more overlap to provide a hingeing mechanism for the rear quarter light.
If you think I’ve got this wrong then please let me know Otherwise I shall see if I can order the appropriate parts. I have a mosque catalogue and I think they’re calling it a quarter window hinge.
Once again many thanks for the kind help

Hi
Yes, it looks like your are missing that part as shown in Serge's picture.
I'm not sure what the part number is for a 2+2 but it should be available or reasonably easy to replicate in brass and then get chromed.
The same part is used for both left and right pillars so you should be able to pop out the one on the opposite side to use as a template.
Good luck with your repair.

Many thanks for the confirmation
Both windows are the same, maybe the previous owner lost that strip during the re-spray - I am going to get ordering a new pair
thanks again

Note that the strips have chamfered edges to form the "hinge" so fit the correct way around....Steve

many thanks for all the help. I finally have managed to get two of the missing strips, and 10 screws, and with the help of a dextrous friend my windows are now secure.
Thank you for pointing me to the solution
