#1 Duxford 1982?

Post by Simon P » Fri Feb 11, 2022 4:00 pm

Whilst clearing out some stuff at the bottom of drawers, I came across these photos which I took at an E-type gathering at Duxford in (I think) 1982 - which being the case I guess would have been a 21st birthday gathering for the type. Interesting to think that at that point the Series IIIs that were there were less that 10 years old!

Be interesting to know, apart from my own, how many of the cars are still with us (some might even belong these days to Forum members?). I've checked some of the number plates but of course a number of the personal plates have since been transferred on to whatever the then owner bought next.

Note the wheels on the second car in. Wolfraces, or Hallewells?

Interestingly angled tailpipes on that one - and I see that replacement rear hatch chromes were hard to come by in those days!

I took one at random, ECH707C, and it’s currently taxed and looked to be in good shape at a JEC event back in 2016 😊

DCO 64C (6th photo) was at the 60th Shelsley Walsh weekend.

A series 1 with a 1979 registration (photo 3)?

Possibly an import in the days when they were given the latest registration.

Some great nostalgia there.

Stuart

After I had contacted one of my car’s POs they sent me a photo of it on its 20th (registration date) birthday. Festooned with balloons it was driven by the owner with her two sons to their school. They were not, apparently, impressed.

We still keep in touch.

XEB914T : no trace of it on DVLA . My guess is it's a Challenger which has been scrapped

The series 3 next to the “Challenger” that’s attracting a lot of interest is still going strong and sold at H&H auction in 2008 for £81000.
