Been clearing out my study in preparation for moving house. Came across the Feb/March 20 edition of Classic Jaguar with an article on 77RW. I was surprised to see a picture of a RHS spinner which appears to me to be a non original reproduction with the narrow GU and stretched A's. Spoke pattern also looks suspect. Am I mistaken, any comments?

I am not terribly surprised . The car was in a fairly terrible state before restoration . That in itself was a rather peculiar deal, because I think the JDHT did it on condition that they became the owner but would lend it back to the previous owner

Someone needs to be taken out and shot.

That sounds like a terrible deal for the owner .Even if resto costs are £ 150 - 200 k , 77 RW must be worth 3 x that amount when restored .

It's not a terrible deal if you haven't got the money for restoration, and it is actually only in recent years that even these very early Es have been worth loadsamoney, and how long the bubble lasts is questionable

The JDHC have a write up on 77RW and they say that in 2000 the car was put on permenant loan to them by the owner and then had a full resto. .....yes iv seen the car with repro spinners fitted......but iv also seen repro spinners on the Jaguar factory continuation cars......Steve https://www.jaguarheritage.com/car/1961 ... tre-77-rw/

I got my old bashed spinners dressed and chromed by Derby Plating for little more than the repros cost.
I’m always surprised at how many restorations DONT do this
