The 'E' Type Forum

Afternoon all, would a set of Mk10 carbs fit an E type as I presume they must be very close. I see they have an electric choke mechanism on them.

I'm afraid not. In the first place the bellchambers are too tall, and this problem is exacerbated if a mark 10 manifold is used as the E type manifold has a "step-down" from cylinder head face to air filter face to give clearance under the bonnet. Also, the electric choke poses very considerable problems, and converting to manual choke is not viable

As Christopher says, the manifold won't allow the carbs to fit under the bonnet, the carb bells are also taller than E Type ones and if you want a manual choke mechanism you'll have to get a whole lot of parts that are very expensive and in some cases not available new. You may also run into problems getting the thermostat housing to connect to the radiator.

This is why sets of triple carbs from E types attract a premium price.

I sold my early 3.8 set for $3500 a few months ago.

Aussie dollars or US? Early 3.8 sets with correct linkage are more rare & pricey, I suppose.

Pacific Pesos sadly. But they had just been rebuilt by an expert :-)
