1973 S3 OTS

A month ago, I was offered an Etype s2 fhc to restore and as they don’t come that often I got it.
However last week I was offered another Etype and decided to get it as well.
In the UK we say “it’s like waiting for a bus – then 2 come along at the same time”
So, the story with this car is it’s a UK RHD car with a manual gear box – built 1973 – Primrose.
2 owners from new. Last owner of 40 years, – 39000 miles –
Was part of a collection of over 30 cars.
Car was showing signs of age and some rusty outer panels – so was sent off to have its body done.
Then it stalled – so I was offered it and now it’s in my garage.
Bad bits
Al the new panels do not fit and need modification
The door skins that are new have been put on badly and need to come off.
New sills have not been aligned up with bonnet – so fun there
New wings on bonnet just bolted on and I have a feeling I need to take the bonnet to bits and re do it all.
Good Bits
It runs very smoothly! – and the underside still has all its original underseal and after a good poke around there are no holes – it’s extremely sound.
It has a hard top in very good condition
Lots of new panels –
Complete car with all its bits.
Its even still got the rear air scoops – they normally rust away…..
And still got the origonal wings and they are in fantastic condition apart from 2 small rust holes at the front - i dont undestand why they changed them.

The underseal is so thick – not sure if that is original.
Odd thig is – the interior is black but the sound proofing in the boot/trunk rear bulkhead is Tan…. So, I’m not sure if it had an interior colour change of if jag used up any colour of soundproofing in the trunk.

The car was black:- the yellow coloured primer (coincidentally similar to primrose) is the lowest (first) coat of paint put on by the factory.

The boot trim is original. They were all that colour in the boot.

kind regards
Marek

Those look like S3 wings with the flared wheel arches, or did S2 also have that?

I think I may have misread your original post.

The car colour will be whatever the hidden interior car colour was (ditto for what is under the underseal), assuming these were never repainted. The interior trim colour may well have been black, but the boot trim was always "biscuit". Yellow primer was still the lowest coat of paint.

kind regards
Marek

I hate to tell you but the bus analogy involves 3, not 2 buses. Expect someone to bang on your door soon with a 3rd e type 😆

Oh yes - its 3 buses - I may need help if that the case....
I have just googled it and they say the phenomena is called "platooning"
so today i have learnt 2 things - buses in 3 and a new word Platooning.

Rare to see the spare ignition key supplied by the factory still in situ, fixed to the bulkhead.

I did see that pre purchase ... i just guess that it was put there by an owner as a spare - so that is what they did at the factory....
I guess they did not have as much robbery back in 1974…….

Is the other spare key still fixed to the back of the instrument panel?
