Post by mxke » Tue Sep 20, 2022 7:05 pm

Hi
I have a spare boot arm BD19188.
Is this from an early series 1 car?
Thank you in advance
Mike

No replies?
Here is an overall picture. Very dainty compared to the ones on my car.

Interestingly the part number does not come up in any of the SPC's. We do know the single hinge was used for the very early cars until about June 1961.

Very rare part and valuable to owners of the first OBL's.

There's a good photo of this part in situ (and shown next to the more-commonly-come-across later part) on p.36 of Clausager.

David,
I see the same part number (BD19188 @ R1R) on the (dual) boot hinges of my OTS 875740 which is not an OBL but a later flat floor (manufacture on 10 October 1961) :

Were the dual hinges made of two similar single hinges?

Yes, they welded two BD19188 hinge brackets together to improve rigidity until about September 1961 #875778 with the thick single cast used from #875779 onward.

Thank you David.
The shift date would then be in September rather than October?

That would mean that the body of my 1961 OTS (#875740) was assembled in September 1961 at the latest, so earlier than the 10 October 1961 date of manufacture as stated in the JDHT Certificate.

Not surprising, considering the rather low (R1623) body tag number:
