#1 Found a treasure

Post by DWW » Mon Oct 10, 2022 5:03 pm

Decided to put some order with all the original stuff I got when bought the car, found an original service manual, original parts manual and an early Haynes manual also among that lot I came across this original horn push, regretfully seen better days .

Good find. The horn push is very restorable - I did mine and it looks really good. Even if the Bakelite looks faded, you can bring it back to life using India ink and careful polishing. Even cracks and chips can be sorted out.

That horn push is a treasure, don't loose it or dispose of it. Reproductions don't look right, wrong colour gold.

Easy to spot the difference!

The only problem is that the underside ridge on the black surround is missing, I may have to ‘borrow that from the after market one if at all possible?

Final result

It was quite difficult since the copper/brass plate was also missing from the original one so I had to perform a transplant but at the end it all worked well.
