Hi, my car needs recovering to get it to a garage. where are the best places to attach straps? to the back and front to get it on recovery truck? Clutch has gone so can't drive it on.

From front...lower wishbones..from rear..lower rear wishbones....note if pulling from a high angle the winch line may catch the bonnet or rear under panel and do damage.....only pull from low down and shallow angle...Steve

Thanks for advice, not sure what happened to the clutch. Went for a drive, fine to start with, then juddering when pulling away then no clutch! wasn't far from home so started in gear and got home. Clutch pedal pressure is moving push rod on slave cylinder and clutch arm, so nut sure what's wrong!!

Adam, tell us what you know of the car and particularly when the clutch was last renewed, that will help others with diagnosis.

Possibly a broken release bearing.

It may well be the thrust bearing. You may be able to see it through the little inspection hole.

I like to put E Types on rear first. Winch strap to a lower wishbone arm.

Not sure when clutch last replaced, just strange it went so quickly

Since it is not the clutch which has gone, but the clutch release mechanism , you should be able easily to drive it onto the recovery truck with the starter motor, particularly if you take the plugs out. If you are worried about heat build up, do it in easy stages

Mystery why the clutch went awol. Pin for the clutch arm in the bell housing fell out,falling out off inspection hole on the bottom of the bell housing !! luckily no damage done.Now having gearbox rebuilt and new clutch fitted by Hardy engineering.

Hi, not the best way , nose weight on the trailer will be all to cock , could induce a snake wobble

To be fair we use tilt tray trucks rather than trailers so the weight distribution isn't an issue.

In any case most of the engine weight is behind the front axle while the IRS is right at the back of the car so it may be that it would not actually make a big difference on a trailer anyway.

You get better clearance putting the car on backwards, and additionally it comes off front first at the destination.

E-type weight distribution is allegedly 50/50, so shouldn't make any difference which way it's loaded.
