#1 Shipping and Duty/Death and taxes...

Post by Dad » Thu Nov 24, 2022 7:21 pm

Maintaining an e-type in the UK is expensive. Maintaining one in Canada is MUCH more expensive due to shipping and customs. It's not uncommon to end up more than doubling the cost of items purchased from a US or UK-based supplier. I appreciate these are extremely privileged and fortunate problems to have, but does anyone know of any way to avoid such horrific gouging?

Any Canadian-based e-type parts suppliers I may have somehow not found yet?

A vain and desperate plea, I know, but I did search this forum for the subject prior to posting and obviously I'm far from being the only one running out of organs to sell to support my 'habit'.

Eh?

I feel your pain. In addition to my E Type I have a '66 Corvette Sting Ray C2 Big Block and importing parts from the States you can almost double the costs with duty and shipping. However, in the UK we also suffer from a poor exchange rate that increases costs even more!

I can vouch for Browns Lane. Tom was very helpful with parts and advice during my rebuild. There will still be Canada Post to British Columbia to pay though.

The duty for purchasing across borders is an expensive night mare and not good for trade! On a completely different note I've recently purchased an Ex canadian '65 4.2 FHC and wonder what might be the best route to try and investigate its earlier years - can you provide an insight?

20 years or so ago in British Columbia one could obtain records of previous owners. Not any more. Privacy rules...

I feel your pain when it comes to maintaining an e-type in Canada. Shipping and customs fees can add up, making it much more expensive than maintaining one in the UK. It's a real bummer that items purchased from US or UK-based suppliers cost more than double due to these fees. In terms of shipping your vehicle, have you checked out a1autotransport? They are a good option for getting your car from point A to point B without breaking the bank. I know it can be frustrating to deal with these issues, but keep your head up and search for solutions. You're not alone in this struggle!
