Fellow Jag lovers!!

My wife & I are driving a 3 week route this June (2023) .London...North Devon...Newton Abbot...Portsmouth...Arundel...back to London.
Of course the highlight is Beaulieu!! Also the Royal Navy Arm amongst many other sites.

A lot of driving on B and smaller rural goat paths.
I am looking for any help in getting printed detailed road maps showing these smaller roads.
Something that I can read easily in the car.
Sadly I can't fit my 66 2+2 in my luggage and show it at Beaulieu!

Any help is most greatly appreciated

Glen, having spent two fascinating days at the Royal Navy Museum in Portsmouth I can thoroughly recommend it. Especially if you are ex RCN.
There might be a few motor racing events at places like Thruxton, Brands Hatch, Castle Combe and the like which are all within easy reach of your tour of the south which could add a diversion. Plus the Haynes Motor Museum.
I believe Angus Moss (1954Etype) in Letchworth https://www.mossjaguar.com/index.html# might be able to hire out an E Type for you.
Beaulieu Simply Jaguar is on the 25th June. And the area of The New Forest is nice to see. Bucklers Hard is near to Beaulieu and you can see the homes of people who built ships for Nelson’s fleet and the slipways where they were built.

Keep us aware of your plans. There are a few of us within a short drive of where you’ll be. And have lots of fun.
And btw, it isn’t easy for us to let you borrow a car as the insurance is normally for one or two named drivers not just for the car and any driver.

Hello Glen,
I live five minutes from Beaulieu, so let me know if I can be of any assistance to you. I also would recommend Bucklers Hard, and the National Motor Museum in Beaulieu. Nearby to Lymington Hurst Castle at Keyhaven is also worth a look. You can get a car ferry from Lymington (15 minutes from Beaulieu) to the Isle of Wight which only takes 35 minutes and there are some great views and driving roads there. Hope you have a good time when you get here.

We will take the lymington ferry to the isle of wight on the thursday or friday before simply jag. Any idea of possible wait times for the ferry?

On another note: My search for actual bed sizes in accomadations leads me think there is no standard to these sizes. Can anyone clarify? In north america the biggest is king at 6' wide, queen at 5', then double ,then twin or single. I see sizes in england like double, large double,extra large double, king , superking, twin.
At 6'4" ( hence the 2+2) I need the 6' wide size.

Glen , I’ve seen hotels in Britain with queen size beds bigger than king. Looking at an hotel in the New Forest (near Beaulieu) they quote “super king size”. It might therefore be best for you to shortlist a few hotels and send them emails just to confirm what they offer.
As for the ferries, you might like to send a pm to Dave Rose (44DHR) who lives on the Isle of Wight.

Hi Glen,
You can pre-book on line with Wightlink Isle of Wight Ferry to be sure of a place in the summer at holiday time. (That is from Lymington.) You need to arrive 15 minutes before the sailing time, and it will take you to Yarmouth on the Island in 35 minutes. If you want to stay on the Island The George Hotel in Yarmouth is on the sea and has a good menu. Hotels back on the mainland - for a special treat Limewood near Lyndhurst is a very good hotel, there is also the Montagu Arms in Beaulieu which is also very nice. There is also The Pig at Brockenhurst. In Lymington High Street there is Stanwells, which is just completing a refurbishment. I feel you would need to specify if you wanted a large size bed to be sure of what you would be getting. All hotels mentioned are no more than ten/fifteen minutes from Beaulieu. New Forest Classics have a 2 + 2 with sun roof for hire and various other models. Hope this information is of help to you.
