"Art created by a car brings to mind painted tire tracks and Pollock-esque droplets in hues of 10W-30, ATF, and grime. Thinking past such direct markings, artist Tim Knowles has taken a fixed-head Jaguar E-Type and turned it into the fastest moving Etch-A-Sketch in existence. In the cargo area of the sporting coupe is a rig with an elastic mounted pen which slides on rails. Turn the vehicle in one direction, the pen goes the other way ? it slides forward when braking and accelerating makes it slide rearward. A similar system was dropped into a Volvo V70 and driven across the Alps to an art gallery, generating the drawing for exhibition along the way. Traversing mountains is all well and good, but this Jag goes racing! Brands Hatch and Monaco have created two works of art that fascinating in their combination of gestural and linear qualities. "

Spirograph meets oil slick...pity they didn't show the pics of various circuits for comparison.
'Fixed head' my a**e, not that there's anything wrong with a 2+2 :-)

Isn't the 2+2 a Fixed Head then?

This all reminds me of the students who entered a picture ( or two ) in the Royal Academy Summer Show in the 1930s , of abstract art in lurid colours . The Academicians thought it was wonderful and pontificated at length on the deeply spiritual qualities etc revealed . What they did not know until later, when they got very angry , was that the pictures had been created by dipping the tails of 2 or 3 donkeys in various cans of paint and allowing them to swish their tails against the canvas !

I am a tad confused by Pete's definitions.....I'd always thought that the 2+2 was a fixed head coupe, bit like my XJS, it has a fixed head, it is a coupe, but 4 seats. I am given to understand that Pete does not recognize squares, he insists they are merely rectangles with equal sides.....
Regards to all as usual,
Norman.

Hello Norman who rattled your cage? :-) I was young and foolish then, as opposed to old and foolish now.
On the other hand, try asking 'fixed head' prices for a 2+2 and see what the market says, although I suppose anything is possible nowadays.
I suppose generally if two cars share a one characteristic but differ in another, they are typically identified by the one that distinguishes them. Jaguar did refer to the 2+2 as a fixed head coupe in their S3 (US?) brochures IIRC, but by then they'd stopped making the FHC, so that still identified the exact model of the two still being made, with no confusion possible for their new output.
E.g. Land Rovers are often referred to by their wheelbase even if practically everything else is common between two examples. Or if they are the same wheelbase they are distinguished by their Series, and if the same wheelbase and series they'd be singled out by canvass or hard top etc. If you were standing next to a famous short comedian it would be no use calling you Norman :-)

Hi Pete,
Good to hear from you, and good to see that your pen is as sharp as ever........ :) Couldn't hear the cage rattle, but then again my hearing aid has been playing up....as indeed yours must be, if you couldn't hear the spoon hitting the sides of the pot, as I, tongue in cheek, stirred...........
Admittedly Jaguar, when they adopted the abbreviations OTS, FHC, etc., defined the descriptions, for the next millennium, within the E-Type range. Thus, although my son-in-law's MGA 1600 is indeed an open two-seater, to refer to it in Jaguar circles as an OTS might cause some confusion. Likewise, I suppose, even though a Lamborghini Countach is a coup? with a fixed integral roof, the term FHC would likewise confuse.....
As regards your comments on pricing, I was referring to the nature of the structure, rather than current E-Type values, of which I am well aware..... :)
Cheers,
Norman.

I'm not the only one missing the funny bone then - my pricing comments were in the same vein. Let's face it Norman we''re both addled and stone deaf from riding Triumphs too long and too far, but we keep each other company. If you ever come to the East Coast be sure to let me know...
..so I can be out on the Triumph when you get here :-)
