Blimey, you could buy two original gear knobs and key fobs for that money

At this rate it won’t be long before a hardtop will be worth more than the car it sits on

I have a red hardtop in good shape that fits my 1970 E type roadster with no clips that I would like to sell. Can anyone give me advice on pricing and venue to sell it? Never done this before. Thanks

I see you are located in the US.
Best place to sell IMHO is BAT, without reserve price.
Without the complete trim, you will not get a price of 20k+ but you could be in the range 5k-10k for a series 1-2 hardtop in good condition.
Look at the past auctions:

I have a series 3 hardtop with all chrome trim intact in good condition. However, having owned the E Type for 14 years I have never used it. It's just a nuisance to store.

I am told by the first owner that it came with the car new.

I am not sure i believe these crazy prices are genuine sales. As i have commented before i sold a factory original hardtop earlier this year on e-bay and it only attracted one bid and sold for £1100. At that price someone could have bought it shipped it back to the US restored it and still made a profit. It was a genuine Jaguar item that needed restoring ,it had the rear window chrome missing and no headlining but had no damage. I see there are still two for sale on e-bay that have been on there for months. Please explain ??

Nowadays, BAT looks to be a better platform to sell such items.
There are a lot of good comments and advices on BAT that reassure potential buyers about the quality and originality of items, that you don't have on ebay where you may be cheated.
Also the fact that a hardtop would need substantial restoration or is missing difficult to source parts may rebuff potential buyers.
