As mentioned above I find I am very limited when accessing my storage location as the exhaust silencers keep hitting when the access slope turns into level. I am forced to use planks to either raise the front or rear of the car so the exhaust does not catch on the brow of the access, Has anyone found a better solution....also I sometimes find if I am slightly faster over a road speed bump I some times get the dreaded knock....Car height is set correctly.

There are a number of strategies and none of them are great.

Firstly, you can fit spacers under the rear springs to increase the distances between the perches. This will set your rear ride height slightly higher.

Secondly, if you undo all of the clamps between the various exhaust components, you can then run the car and jack the car up under the silencers. This will force the geometry of the whole exhaust to change as it heats up, vibrates and loosens. Jacking this will tuck the silencers up closer into the centre tunnel and you can then clamp everything up tight again. Any relevant exhaust hanger brackets can be slightly bent to suit. Heat shields will obviously have to be in good order as more will be asked of them now.

Finally, you can subtly alter the bends in exhaust pipes to reshape them and force them - not for the light hearted as 3D geometry is often very counter-intuitive.

Probably a stupid question, but are you sure you have the right hangers? I went out in one that grounded on road humps, and the expert (really!) i took with me to check my potential purchases out looked underneath and the exhaust was too low because it had the wrong hangers fitted.

You can bend the ears/loops of the hangers to more closely go where you need them to.... so long as there is enough "give" to let the rubber rings still loop over the ends.

Don't know about any hangers like that on an E-type, certainly not on an S1.

Might not help with raising the ride height, but I have set my ride height quite low and to avoid damage to the main central exhaust box - I have a Hayward and Scott exhaust - welded small ramps made from stainless steel bar from the lowest edge of the front of the box to the exhaust inlet pipes on each side. This hopefully avoids the long flat surface edge getting caught on any object sticking up on the road surface. In approaching items such as speed humps in the road, I slow down and if the exhaust box does ground, it gets lifted gently on the ramps.
