#1 Bow drill fabric application

Post by c1nicolei » Mon Nov 27, 2023 12:51 am

What adhesive did you use for this?

Also, is the wood wrapped separately or one piece over metal and wood?

This is how is was prior to removing the fabric.

But have been advised that in some models theirs was wrapped separately.

Hi,

What is your name?

I believe they were all covered in the same way - the wood piece being covered separately to the metal and then bolted together. I just used good quality contact spray adhesive. Are you replacing with new material? Trying to re-use the old material without tearing be a challenge.

Also, you will get a lot more accurate answers if you can put your car model in your signature.

:thankyouyellow:

My name is Nicole.

Yes, I will definitely be using new fabric.

Still sanding the old glue/fabric that has hardened over the last 5 decades. I was shocked that my wood pieces as well as the metal is in superb condition! No significant rust or rot. Can only assume this is the original part as I know last 40 yrs of the cars history.

Taking the metal bow to get paint color matched today. Mine seems to have a bluish/green gray color.

My 4.2L 1.5 seems to have it all covered in once piece, while others have said they seemed to be covered separately.

Interesting to see the difference.

Nicole, if you look top right where your user name is you can select the down arrow and then modify your user signature to include your name and car type.

There’s lots of help on here. Having a name to reply to is much more polite and if we know which car type you have then repossess can be tailored to give the best help.

Find a great source for the bow drill fabric. Out of Spokane. Very reasonable price.

Also sourced a SEM paint that is spot on locally at Soto price paint shop.

What is the ringlet hole for. I thought it was to hold down the covetable roof. But cannot work out how it work.

The green (they were always green leather on the S1 cars) hold-down straps pass through the eyelets when the hood is down and attach to the fittings on the rear bulkhead.
