#1 Re registering a car that had been exported

Hi all, my car was an original RHD car that went to Holland in 1986. I have the original export and import docs that came with the car. I checked the DVLA website last night and the UK reg number is still active on the computer. How do I go about getting the reg number back, would I have to go to the local DVLA office or is there a form to fill in?

If you are a member of the JEC you need to have a word with Keith Vincent who will take you through the procedure. I do not know who is the equivalent at the JDC but there will probably be one. In any event it is worth being a member of one of the clubs ( and for various reasons I would recommend JEC ) because they can solve these re-registration problems much more easily than individuals can

There's some information on here Alasdair...

Given that you have the original export documents, presumably showing the registration and chassis numbers, it should just be a paper exercise to get the original registration number re-allocated. The more documents you have (like old MOT certificates, old logbook / V5 ) the easier the process.

There is a nice typo with 2 transposed numbers on the export document so that will probably take some sorting. I am an E type club member so don't know if anyone within the club could assist?

Don't think the E-Type Club offer such a service. As Christopher suggests, contact either the JEC or JDC who have experts on hand.
