Seems the only way to drive a convertible from now on is with the hood up! Won't be long before the Government make it illegal to produce, buy, own, insure, tax or drive an open car as it infringes Health & Safety laws (aka costs the NHS money):

Or for those of us raised around firearms before we knew (or were told) about ear damage, it's water under the bridge. I've had tinnitus since I was a teenager, so it's probably too late for me. I have ear muffs with 27 dB noise reduction rating that I now use for shooting, but I think I would look a little dorky driving with them on, and I can't stand earplugs for any length of time. I think I'll just enjoy the drive and accept that in another 20 years (if I'm still here), I'll be as deaf as a stump.

I read this information in an internet french forum; If this is not a fake, and if this Swiss position is extended to Great Britain and France, WE (Ots and Fhc owner) will have some trouble even before the suppression of fuel?

Hi David,

I read a good paper on this subject about six months ago. The evidence was pretty strong. I've no doubt it's true. I think that Ray Livingston's Blowviator significantly helps as do other modern convertible windbreaks.

The difference is pretty profound: my son and I can talk while driving 70 mph...or listen to the radio. That is impossible when I don't have the blowviator in place.

Even so an OTS is loud.

At he age of 61, I do not particularly care about going deaf due to driving an open top OTS. However, if I am to keep my wife on board I need to make the car as comfortable as possible. Where can you buy these wind deflectors from for an OTS and how much do they cost. I apologise to the purists on this matter but my idea on OTS driving and my wifes need to be taken into account.

I also have one of RL's blowviators but I think they are NLA. It makes a HUGE difference. Certainly doesn't add to the looks of the car but what could?

IMO and that of my wife the car is simply unusable at speed without it. If I didn't have this windbreak I would set about fabricating something similar pdq.

There is a full review of 'The Blowviator' here: http://etypeuk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=686 Fantastic bit of kit and we deploy ours as soon as we hit a motorway or Autoroute. It allows us to sustain speeds of 90mph+ without feeling we have gone 5 rounds with Mike Tyson and increases our effective daily 'range'. Usually drop it for backroad work unless it starts to get cold. Although Ray no longer has time to make them (he only produced about 12) I have been trying to get CMC to pick up the idea for production. Ray's design is very clever - although some feel it looks slightly odd - and the curved perspex is key to its effectiveness on the E-Type by suppressing sound from passing vehicles and scenery. Others have tried just the screen but that does not work because of the design of our cars. The only enhancement it needs is a curtain from the lower edge of the centre piece to drop behind the seats which would stop cold air 'leaking' into the cabin but that is being picky. If you can find one, buy it immediately as it makes open driving a real pleasure in all conditions.
