#1 Series 1,5 in Germany?

Hello to all experts.
As already written, I would like to buy an E-Type Series 1.5 or 2 and have found the one in the pictures here in Germany. What do you think of it?

On the face of it, appears to be a driver. Depends on when and how it was last restored and the price of course.

It is not known exactly when the car was restored, but it was certainly 20-25 years ago. What price would be reasonable from your point of view? :shrug:

Without seeing the car, knowing what current prices are in Germany that isn’t easy to answer. Get someone experience (properly experienced) in E Types to look at it with you. If appropriate there’s a very good man here in England, you’ll pay for his time and travel but more than save that in bad advice or buying a bad car!

Any car is worth what you and only you are willing to pay for it!

I actually know someone who is really familiar with the E-types. I was just interested to see if the forum here could find any major (originality) faults with the vehicle...

Why are you worried about originality? A minor detail difference is not important, they can always be corrected later buying the correct part. Get the car checked over for rust, damage, major problems with the engine, or anything else that will cost a lot of money to fix. Minor items like is it the correct alternator, seat belts, horn push (which looks wrong!) etc. can be dealt with later.
Do you want a car to drive and enjoy or just show off to friends or at car rallies?
My car has quite a few non original details, but and it’s a big BUT, that doesn’t matter because it’s one heck of a great car to be in and drive!!!

As has been mentioned, this specific offer seems to be a running example which you might be able to enjoy driving off the sellers lot. What do you wish to achieve with your purchase? The more I look at the pictures, the more I find to be corrected long term. Though if your goal is driving this summer, the the car is driving well with good brakes, no rust and decent pull of the engine - good. If you are looking for a perfectly detailed car - not so much. But then the price range for perfect car would be higher wouldn‘t it not? You will in most cases have the uncertainty of engine work already done. If the engine needs work, you‘re screwed and might regret your buy. On the other hand, if what you are looking for is a „first“ E-type for the experience to drive and learn and find the details to be fixed up - I think this example to be not bad.

Hi,
I am now going to look at another/better vehicle (series 2), but it has a gearbox conversion to a 5-speed gearbox and has retrofitted electric power steering. What do you think of this? Does anyone have any experience?

Hi Klaus

A fellow E-Type owner I know, has fitted an electric power steering kit to his 4.2 S1 and he swears by it. Maximum assistance is only available at slow/parking speeds and then reduces to zero as you approach 30mph.
The only downside he has found so far is that it severely restricts the under dashboard access around the steering column. I think he has had to alter the two panels affected to accommodate it.
In reference to the 5 speed gearbox question, I had a conversation on this very subject
with another owner yesterday while attending the Scottish Jaguar Enthusiasts Day at Glasgow Riverside Museum-did anyone else go?
He bought his car with it already fitted and has been very impressed. 70mph is reached at 2100rpm and it makes for very relaxed driving apparently.

Check our what 5 speed is fitted....is the gear lever in the correct position...has any on the body structure/crossmember been altered to fit the gearbox...Steve

There are a few postings on J-L regarding the electric power steering conversion. Mike Oldak seems to be pleased with his conversion.

I installed the EZ Power Steering on my S1 years ago and it is wonderful. The unit replaces the steering column and fits under the dash. It is adjustable and is an assist which can be dialed up or down. I needed it to compensate for adding wider tires which make the car a bear to park. I was also able to add a smaller steering wheel which makes access easier than losing 20 pounds.

Klaus, go and buy a car and learn the hard way, or you contact me in Osnabrück and we find a good car for you together. But apparently, that does cost some money, albeit much less, that you have to add to your purchase when you do not have the right adviser.
