#1 Auto vs manual
I suspect most cars were autos, but what's the view here in the UK of an auto etype given our preference for manual cars? Is an auto etype as enjoyable to drive as a manual?
Thanks in advance

Most S1, S2 cars were manual..auto only available on the longer wheelbase 2+2 cars....they are less desirable.......conversion to manual with an overdrive is fairly typical cost around £7k area depending who does

As Steve says it was only available on the long wheelbase 2+2, therefore you need to look at the aesthetics of the 2+2 vs the short wheelbase. Steve and others had or have 2+2s and like them. Some dislike the shape. A very personal thing. They have the advantages of auto if that is your preference and the greater space for either a couple of children in the back seats or fold them down (the seats not the children!) and get greater luggage space.

In most British classic sports cars manuals delivered the best driving experience. As the e type was in essence a sports grand tourer it could go both ways depending on preference. Personally the best for me is a manual 3.8L and in my case a 5 speed converted e.

Steve, I'd prefer a manual but might not be able to find a good one for my budget. I understand it is best to buy a rust free car rather than the "right" spec but with bodywork issues. My concern with an auto is how much i'd be missing out on the driving experience. Thanks Kev

Geoff, I like the 2+2 so not an issue for me.
No, not been to see one before with an intention of buying. Travelling tomorrow to view.

I have £35,000, but would like to spend less. I'm after something we will use to tour the UK. Not interested in concours or it being "right", just something we can use 10 months of the year, rain or shine, avoiding the salt.
This is my TR being properly used
