I think that with an e type we get used to paying a premium price for parts. I thought that I would just post about my recent example.
Having changed the pipes from the fuel pump I decided to renew the 2 O rings that seal the joint where the banjo fittings attach to the pump.
On looking at suppliers I saw them at £6.99 each plus post !
They are the same as fitted to many cars using SU pumps so I bought some from an MG supplier at 60p each .
It pays to shop around !

That's what everybody would like to do.
But it is not always easy to find the specs and the reference numbers of many parts are Jaguar only.
Or if you are fortunate, it's a Lucas or whatever other brand with a reference...

In general it would be nice to have a list of cross reference parts between other brands and E-type.
When I was renovating my IRS and propshaft on my 1965 FHC last year I discovered by chance that the propshaft flange yoke and universal joints fit 100% from a Land Rover Series 3. I had some Land Rover parts lying on the shelf and they are exactly the same.
The price at the usual E-type suppliers is approx. 50 € for the propshaft flange and approx. 25-30 € for the universal joints.
The same parts cost respectively 20 € and 10-15 € at the Land Rover suppliers.

The propshaft universal joint OEM at SNGB JLM 823? is around £16 the aftermarket part is £11...so it does depend very much on what and where you buy from...Steve PS feel free to start up a parts compatability/cross reference list

What would be helpful to members is a list of parts being supplied that are totally unfit for purpose.
Based on the number of times I've reported faulty parts to suppliers and been told, "this is the first time we've received a complaint regarding this part" I can only conclude that others that have bought such parts have been oblivious of the correct fit and so long as the part assembles, albeit with profoundly excess clearance, they deem it to be correct. In some instances, this has the potential of creating a dangerous assembly.
Not only would such a list circumvent the angst of waiting for a part to arrive and then finding it unusable, but also, for those working on their own cars and who may may not have the mechanical knowledge to recognize a faulty part, prevent the part from being used inappropriately.

Hi All...Please dont just assume that its someone elses job to add content to the forum......this is a members forum....everyone is free to post usefull information to help other members....please feel free to create lists of common parts or a list of parts that don't fit.....no one is paid to run this forum so it's no ones "job" to add or collate information.....if you want it then do it....
.Steve....PS..I would add that if your purchasing an aftermarket or non OEM part then there is a very high chance that its not the same as an original part......so you will have fit issues whether you realise it or not
