Add YouTube videos to your posts

Just added a function to embed YouTube videos into posts - they will appear thus:

Just click on the Play button in the middle of the screen.

If you want to post a video proceed as follows:

1. Create a new post
2. Click YouTube button
3. Paste the YouTube URL link after the "[youtube]"
4. Click the YouTube button again
5. Click Preview and you should be able to view the video
6. 'Link' takes you direct to YouTube if you want
7. If it does not appear try removing the 's' from https so it reads http://

I hope it is disabled in the Collectors forum David - the combination of video capability and 'glamour' submissions might lead to some old classics overheating and blowing a gasket. We already have dribbles and leaks to look forward to... :-)

Hello Heuer,
Could you pl help me with the Fuel tank removal/refit video which I have just posted?
I followed your instructions as best I could, although eg I couldn't find the YouTube button you referred to so just used the media one. Anyway it won't play for some reason, even though it has been up on YouTube for a few weeks and is working well there.
Hope I haven't done something daft!

Seems to be working for me. You did have a rogue second link which did not work and I deleted it to tidy things up.

The rogue link was the one that resulted from me following the instructions, but thanks anyway for deleting it. The working link was my second attempt, and just a simple cut & paste of the YouTube address.
Maybe I was over complicating it!

I changed the Forum software to recognise YouTube URL links without needing to use the 'media' button. Makes life simpler for everyone.

Now its my turn - i used to be able to do this ... now when I paste a youtube link it publishes as a hyperlink, not an embedded video, what have i forgotten?

Seems that it works ok when YT has deemed that the video is a "Video", not when it is a "Short".

YouTube links starting with https generally won't display but if you change it to http it usually will. I think it also depends on what the clips author has their preferences set to. In any event a YouTube clickable link will work.

What I've now learned:
Turns out not all YT clips will embed. "Videos" yes, they embed no problem whatsoever. But "Shorts" don't, they just are hyper-link to YT where the clip plays on repeat .

These days, when you create a clip, if it is in portrait mode and less than one minute, YT deems it to be a "Short" and saves it accordingly, these don't embed. "Short" links start with "https://youtube.com"
Otherwise, if it is in landscape mode and longer than a minute< YT deems it to be a "Video", these embed. "Video" links start with "https://youtu.be/"
