#1 Series 1.5 doors on a SII car - lock issues

Post by andrew march » Fri Jul 08, 2011 12:24 pm

Can any one confirm if they have every fitted door locks to a SII car with S1.5 doors? Only now with the Classic car show at the end of the month has this been identified.

I am not quite sure what you are asking about. As far as I know, all series of Es have the same lock arrangement, with the key disabling the button in the handle so as to render the release mechanism inoperative. Or are you referring to the internal linkage, quaintly known as the remote control ? Those are of course different with the later cars having the internal levers recessed

The locks did change to anti-burst around the mid/late sixties, but I'm not well up on the interchageability. I believe the 2+2 was the first to be fitted with such locks.

Certainly the Series 1 2+2 has a very different arrangement, with the lock in a separate cylinder lower down on the door skin. This may be what Andrew is querying, although I *think* the separate lock arrangement had been dropped by the time of the S1.5 2+2. You never know with those transitional cars though....

Ah yes, Peter, you are quite right : I had forgotten that the 2+2 has a separate keyhole
