#1 articles in magazines, journals etc... celebrating the E 50

Post by Phil » Fri Jan 07, 2011 5:57 pm

Hello

I would like to suggest we keep ourselves informed about articles in magazines, journals, websites etc... celebrating the E 50th anniversary.
Ideally with a short description of the content (N? pages) relevance, and source + if appropriate (E-Type featured on it) a photo of the cover page.

This could help us to trace anything published and be informed .

Here is one in the Classic Cars Magazine January edition :34 pages with a small sampler online. Have not seen it so cannot comment further.

Great idea Phil!
This is the January edition of Classics Monthly which features the E-Type in its 'British Icons at 50' series - 6 pages:

The January edition of Classic Car referred to above has 25 pages devoted to the E-Type and this free calendar:

Agreed (now I can think of one good thing that came out of Belgium!). But, why not include any articles on E Types that appear in new magazines beyond this year?

Actually the car on display is not 77 RW but an early car on loan from CMC. 77 RW was used for the external publicity shots with Norman Dewis at the wheel.

"The E-Type on display was manufactured in 1961 and has been provided by Classic Motors Cars Limited of Bridgnorth, Shropshire."

Also the Daily Telegraph seem a bit out of touch:

"Jaguar E-type
Production: 1961 to 1974
Price now: ?20-?50,000
Dress: Mod suits from Carnaby Street
On the radio: All Along The Watchtower, Jimi Hendrix
Telegraph rating: Five out of five"

I will take a concours FHC and OTS at ?50k each please!

Post by norman m. macleod » Sun Aug 07, 2011 2:42 pm

Hi all. almost forgot......
We have the annual Perth Motor Show next week, they are also having a stand on the 50 years of the E-Type, I shall be attending, and shall try to get a few pics for the Forum........I am advised they are also having a bit of a special feature on the Porsche 911 (does anybody know what that is..........?)
Best regards,
Norman.

Mine was a Series I roadster and only had it for a few minutes. In the summer of 65 I just turned 17 and was valet parking at a swanky Jersey Shore hotel. I had already been behind the wheel of everything from Rollers and Bentleys to Corvettes and Avantis, guiding them carefully into their spaces. Then the owner got out of the Jag and said, "Hey, Jerk***, be careful with this thing." At the time, I was going both ways ...in football, playing fullback and defensive tackle. I could have made him look like Beetle Bailey after a fight with Sarge, but I was respectful, and very careful. I drove it around back, out the rear exit and onto the Asbury Park strip. Nine blocks south on Kingsley St.; nine blocks north on Ocean. It was our own Woodward Avenue. I kept my word. Burned no rubber, fried no clutch, stripped no gears. I lost every time the light turned green, but I gained a forever memory of the precise little gear lever and the big song from its beautiful heart. It could have gone so horribly wrong!
