I saw this company (http://www.fxuk.net) advertised in Novembers issue of JAGUAR WORLD.
complete car vinyl wraps in any colour. no more resprays.

the pic shows an XK in chrome. but i would love to see an E type covered in this, any takers

Easy to do and reversible - it's called wrapping - and involves putting sticky backed vinyl of your choice on the car. http://www.colourmycar.net/go/chrome

I plan to photograph the freshly restored engine bay when finished and wrap a copy of it onto the bonnet so it looks as if there is no bonnet on it - how's that for a nuts idea.

I understand from 'Fifth Gear' that wrapping a whole car in chrome would be over ?2000.

in the advert/website its states price for a car wrap around ?700. depending on finish.
and goes on to say why bother with a respray, when you can have any colour you want, change it as often as you like, and still retain the original paint/colour finish underneath.

when you consider the work and cost that goes into a repaint, its got to be good value :o

I might do this to my Mini Moke, but who would really wrap an E type that has good paint to start with?! I don't think I'd risk it for a colour change whim, and would expect some of the paint to pull off after a year or so being soaked in the adhesive solvents. I somehow doubt it would be too reversible!

When I did the Bentley factory tour and test drives a few weeks ago, they showed us this sort of stuff being used over their full scale clay models to replicate paint.

Their stuff was called Di-Noc? and and has been around since the 1940s.
