#1 Trying to ID model

Post by FJMJAG » Thu Jan 05, 2012 8:21 pm

Hi,
I'm new to this E-Type following and are looking to purchase a 1968, there is no headlight covers but it still has toggle switches, so maybe a 1.25. My problem is to validate the serial numbers. The BODY number on the plate is 4E54185 and the ENGINE number 7E54182-8.

I cannot locate any reference to this 54XXX number range. It is a RHD 2+2.

Is this a valid number series or must I stay clear.

Ignore the body number when searching for the car - the real ID is the Car Number that corresponds to the VIN appearing on the log book/V5. The Car Number will be 1E51180-ish or a little higher.

Once you have it, look it up on www.xkedata.com and if it's no there enter it for posterity.

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the info, the Car Number was 1E51165. It falls in the range but registration date shows 1968, manuf seemed to have been 1967.

Anyhow, I loved the car and I'm now the new owner.

Fred
