FBHVC members have contributed to this list of MoT test stations that understand the special requirements of historic vehicles. The majority of addresses on the list only accept cars but there are also some that can test commercial vehicles, motorcycles and three-wheelers. We welcome further additions to the list, which will be updated regularly.

"The FBHVC is pleased to announce the results of its fuel stability additive test programme. This research was designed to test the anti-corrosive properties of proprietary additives claiming to provide a high level of protection against potential corrosion of fuel systems, including tanks, pipework and fuel metering equipment on historic vehicles caused by the addition of ethanol into petrol. VSPe Power Plus, VSPe and EPS from Millers Oils; Ethomix from Frost A R T Ltd; Ethanolmate from Flexolite all received an ?A? rating in the research which enables all these products carry an endorsement from the FBHVC. The endorsement is in the form of the FBHVC logo and the words: ?endorsed by the FBHVC as a fuel additive for protection against corrosion in metals?.

All additive manufacturers and suppliers were approached in 2011 to provide test samples for this research which was designed to simulate storage in a vehicle?s fuel tank for a 12 month period. The FBHVC?s conference last October majored on the effects of ethanol in petrol with presentations from industry experts. It identified three issues to be considered: corrosion, compatibility and combustion. The Federation has been represented at a Fuel Stakeholders meetings with the DfT.

The logic applied (for granting the exemption) would appear to apply equally to E-type owners, but there you go

Im not sure I support this change. I personally like having my car checked over properly by an independent each year. But having a 65 car, it doesn't make any difference. Bet Dave Kerr is sick though, his car is only a few months into '61! :D

Seems to me that the option of having an MOT every 2 or 3 years would have been a more sensible option for classic/vintage cars.

1. Still maintaining a level of technical safety....stops the bodgers.
2. Classic/Vintage cars are used less anyway so less mechanical wear over time.
3. Cheaper on our pocket which is reasonable request for a car that spends primarily more time in a garage!!

I have yet to find anyone who thinks this is a sensible idea because, as Angus says, it is always good to have a second pair of eyes look your car over no matter how diligent you may be. At my last MOT the tester spotted a fine mist on one of the front (Koni ) shocks that I had not noticed. Not a failure but he suggested I should replace it as it would get worse. Even 'The Outlaw Dougal Cawley' at Longstone thinks it is crazy - his Frazer Nash runs without lights, indicators or mud guards ("More to go wrong") on public roads - like's it to be MOT'd in case there is something he has not noticed.
