#1 What clutch assembly?

Post by fandeland » Fri Jul 20, 2012 8:29 pm

Hello everyone,

I need your help to identify the clutch assembly I need. I'm converting my 2+2 to manual. I got myself a 4 speed O/D from a series 1 and a flywheel. I'm not certain if the flywheel came from the same car. How can I know which clutch assembly I need. I have a clutch assembly from a MK2 but it won't fit on the flywheel as the flywheel has 3 "spigots" on its surface but the clutch diaphragm has provision for one only. Any clue?
Thanks a lot

You must use a flywheel that matches your bell-housing and a starter that goes with them. Please post photos of your bell and starter and report how many teeth are on the flywheel. In this day and age you should be using the diaphragm clutch but you doo need the release bearing and flywheel to be compatible.

Thanks Pete, this forced me to look at the flywheel more fearfully. It's a 133 teeth C18517, either from a Etype or Series 1. The gearbox is a full synchro with O/D from a series 1. So I think I need HK9702q clutch kit...

Series 1 or 2 XJ6, yes, but no OD was ever fitted to an E-type by the factory. Clutches were identical for OD or non-OD normal boxes.
