Hi Guys,
Has anyone any experience of blast cleaning ?
I`m looking to find someone that can clean a whole car back to metal for me, a 61 FHC,
A friend of mine had his XK soda blasted but i thought that was a bit of a messy old job and was`nt that keen on it, also there`s a company called cleaning Consultants in Sussex, but there VERY expensive.
If anybody knows of anywhere perhaps you`d let me know,
Thanks in advance.

I bought a soda blaster from MSB along with Aramex media and it works very well. It is not very fast and doesn't remove rust but it keeps the steel straight and remove paint, oil residues, etc quite well. It's a bit messy (dust all around) but soda dissolves with water. It cleans well aluminium, plastic parts, plated parts, rubbers,... I'm very happy with the results. You need something much bigger if you intend to blast the whole car.

Try Marawise in Coventry, they shot blast shells for Martin Robey and many of the other classic Jaguar restorers in and around Coventry. They blast cleaned my S3 roadster shell a few years ago, as I recal cost was less than ?300 then and a super job with no panel distortion.

I had mine shot blasted which was absolutely fine but one thing to note is that the blast media gets inside all the cavities and takes AGES to get it out. I am STILl finding media and the car is nearly fully rebuilt.
Just be careful when painting the body and ensure you blast clean air into all the cavities - that is about the best you can do...
