So anyway...

I'm out for a drive in the OTS before I drive it to Baltimore for UK shipping. Sunny day, top up to get the creases out of the vinyl, so it gets a bit stuffy and I stop to stretch my legs. Just as I'm getting back in the car, somebody shouts

"Oi Jenks!"

Like I say, strange people :-)

All clear for July Carsten and yes, the gap's not too good in that light but Angus will tweak it I'm sure.

I realise I was probably being too cryptic in my post, forgetting that not everyone will either have read Denis Jenkinson's writings or know of the famous photo where he picks up his second E-type at the factory. Here they are side by side:

Denis Jenkinson was a famous motorsport writer in the 1960's. Of all of the cars that he had driven and evaluated for publication, the E Type was one of his favorites and one that he chose as his personal car. Just shows that a good writer can also have good taste in fine cars.

He wrote for decades for Motor Sport as D.S.J. and was a distinguished racing motorcyclist IIRC . Also, he was Moss's co-driver on the Mille Miglia in the 300 SLR

he also wrote the Profile on the Mercedes SL330 which was basically about that outing. A great read!
I must admit, I didin't get the joke at first, but the similarity is really amazing.

I believe he also drove a Porsche 356 for a few years before the Jaguars. If i remember correctly there were some good stories in his column about such matters as servicing the E type by the road in Spain :)

prior to the Mille Miglia, he was world sidecar champion (in the sidecar) with Eric Oliver on a Norton outfit........that was why Moss thought he'd manage the Mille Miglia!

Thats a great photo, it really fooled me.

I remember reading that Dennis would cruise the e type at 120mph for many an hour across Europe.
he said that the engine felt comfortable at that speed.
it must have been nice being able to use the full potential of the car back then.
