Series 1 v Series 2
#1 Series 1 v Series 2
Now this has probably been discussed many many times on the Forum, but I've had a look, and can't see anything quickly (unless someone can steer me to the posts!). I'm looking for a Series 2 2+2, and have been offered a Series 1. This to me, is probably good news as many people think the body looks better and the interior is 'original' with the toggle switches etc. However are there any real disadvantages of the S1 compared to the S2? I know the brakes might be a bit iffy, but the car I'm looking at has Coopercraft fronts, and I know the cooling was suspect but presumably most problems can be solved with an electric fan (and an efficient radiator). What other things should I be aware of, and if the S1 does have other disadvantages, what measures can be taken to improve these (I'm happy to upgrade, as long as it can be reversed if necessary)? Thanks. Malc

... Light at night is worse on the S2.
My main thinking would be that you get much closer to the original E-Type in an S1, AND I would class an S1 to be more stable in value. OTS and FHC did rise a lot, the 2+2 will follow in S1 form.
I have one, I love the somewhat crude looks of the steep front screen and the "like a small safari" rear, and I FIT comfy in it so this is why it had to be an S1 to me.
And, and if it is a US car you get triple carbs as well.....

The S2 was a better developed S1 but nowadays it is quite easy to bring the latter up to snuff. Coopercraft brakes are good and a Kenlowe or Coolcat fan can be easily fitted (especially the Coolcat). The S1 is undoubtedly prettier but the S2 2+2 is possibly better proportioned. Go with whatever appeals to you. As Carsten says the USA S2's had Stromberg carbs which strangle performance.

Well , I believe that of the 2+2s the S2 is far and away the nicest, because in profile it most closely resembles the FHC. The much steeper rake of the screen eliminates most of the quibbles about the S1 2+2 looks, and of course the dynamics of the S2 are definitely more advanced than those of the S1, and eliminate the cooling and braking problems of the S1

I agree with Christopher that the shape of the S2 in profile looks a lot more pleasing that the S1 due to the rake of the windscreen. But I would go one stage further and say that the S3 2+2, with it's wider body (well, flared arches) is the best looking of all the 2+2 cars, with the extra width balanceing the extra length very well.
