The 'E' Type Forum

Hi All,

I am considering sending my '62 FHC body tub, bonnet and engine frames to a company called Marawise in Coventry. Has anyone used these guys? Any feedback would be welcome.

I have discussed with them the process they will use and the media is chilled iron - is this not too aggressive?? They apparently do many E-types and have never had any distortion problems.

Any advice or feedback welcome.

One of the guys I know in my DDK Porsche forum world has recently had chilled iron used to good effect..he asked to be present during blasting as it was a new contact but it worked well...

They did my S3 roadster body in 2005 and did a brilliant job. I was directed to them Rod Jay Who is a specialist E Type body builder and restorer. They also do work for Robey and many of the other classic Jaguar specialists around Coventry.

It was probably the best value outsourced service I used, cost was about ?250 - ?300, sure to have gone up but these guys have probably blast cleaned 100's of car body shells and know what they are doing.

I experienced no distortion from the process. You need to scrap off any bitumen sealer and remove anything you don't want blasted (bonnet catches, hinges, bolts etc). I got them to blast clean all of the numerous brackets, shields and cages prior to powder coating. They will also glass bead blast clean your calipers and suspension parts of rust if you are going to replate them. Also got them to hot zinc spray my exhaust manifolds which is still as good today as when originally done 4000 miles ago.

They will clear out most of the media in the nooks an crannies but an airline when you get the shell back will clear the remainder.

Initially I had planned to do my car so. The cost I found 2 year ago was close to 900 ?.....
I ve done the car by myself.....

Marawise have quoted me ?300 for the stipping process plus ?100 for etch primer. I think this is pretty good value.

I've now removed all the underseal (what a lovely job!) and am about to dismantle the bonnet. I should be all done in 2 or 3 weeks when I'll be hiring a trailer and will be off up to Coventry :-)

I'll post some before and after pics.

Is that price to blast clean the inside of the car too..?
