#1 Test running a newly build XK engine

Post by JEP41 » Sun Mar 16, 2014 7:51 pm

Not exactly e-type business,

But yesterday I was test running a 3.4 litre engine which I have just completed building on my test bed. My daughter decided to video the test running and posted on youtube, boys and their toys.
Kind Regards John

Very nice! You must have neighbors who share your enthusiasm. How about another video taken at night with the garage lights off. With those cams the exhaust flame would be impressive.

Looks good John. Nice to see you at Brian's funeral, and your very good-looking wife. Pity the circumstances weren't better!

I'm just about to buy a C-head engine out of an early XK140 special equipment car. What do you reckon it might be worth when rebuilt?

Hi Pete,

Yes it was good to see you at BW's funeral despite the circumstances. It is hard to put a value on a rebuilt genuine 3.4 SE engine with the C Type head. It really depends on how its rebuilt ie standard or for competition. Mine has Forged pistons, Neuman 0.480" lift cams (therfore larger cam followers were needed) and with serious Port Work. Lightened Flywheel etc and running triple webers although I have a pair of sand cast SU's on a manifold as an option. Costs on this engine excluding my labour (free)
Block Machine work at Chessmans ?1000, Ross Pistoms ?600, Cams ?475, Head repair, 11/2 " Cam Follower inserts, Bronse Guides, gas flowing on Piper Flow bench ?2000. All Head Work by Trevor at TMW Engineering here in Norfolk. All bolts used were ARP at ?500 all this plus vat. So you can see costs vary greatly depending how much is done to the core. E-Mail me for further info
Kind Regards John
