Hexavalent chromium compounds are vicious . The least of their ill effects are that they cause perforation of the nasal septum, so that you can whistle simply by breathing in and out. They also caused a vast excess risk of lung cancer amongst workers exposed to them . Whether this was additive to the risk caused by smoking, or multiplicative of it , was a matter of much debate and was never really settled. Although chrome looks nice, I am not sure that the price was worth paying, and in fact stainless steel is just as good to look at, and in the end is more durable

I am reminded of the Eurosausage.

Given the ubiquity of chrome plating I suspect that this is unlikely. More likely is another layer of bureaucracy to "monitor" businesses, with associated fees.

It'll just chase the plating industry to a less-regulated place. This happened over here, when California clamped down on these guys. They just picked up and moved to other states.
