Brake Fluid

Please forgive my ignorance, but how often do you guys change your brake fluid? Bearing in mind I live in a hot and dry environment! Thanks G.

Every two years without fail, and that includes the clutch fluid.

When using Castrol GTLMA DOT 4 and in a car with its original mild-steel brake and clutch hydraulics, you should probably flush things out annually. Even though the "LMA" stands for "low moisture absorbtion," you'll be surprised at how much corrosion can occur in there, especially with cars that are not driven regularly. The master cylinders typically don't suffer much from corrosion, but I've dealt with brake calipers that were so badly corroded that I had to install a Zerk fitting and use a grease gun to drive the pistons out.

I would certainly go with David's recommendation on a car that has upgraded calipers, or has been converted to silicone-based DOT 5 brake fluid.
