paint code for Gold paint engine block

Im restoring a 1966 e-type , can anyone tell me the color code or name of the color of gold on the block, any info would be much appreciated

I use plastikote gold paint. It is water based. easy to apply and lasts well

Los Bravos 1966 Peter.........

would've thought a bit before your time.....! Anyway, I used POR15 Old Gold Engine paint on the cylinder head, comes up good, how accurate to original however, not too sure, but I'm not an originality slave. Heatproof, bullet proof, etc., only drawback it is eye-wateringly expensive.......

Ian : I don't know the number, but the plastikote I use comes as brush on in a small glass bottle . Available from model shops etc, costs 3 or 4 quid and will do 2 or 3 heads . One of the beauties of the brush on is that you can redo a head without removing the domed nuts, and it flows very easily

Between 1966 and 1969 we had to play it (Black is Black....) as a request number, (our rock band in Zambia...) until the onset of mild nausea....Silver lining was its partial contribution to the purchase of my first E-Type (new...) in November 1969.....
70 last year, you may genuflect at the angle of your choice.....

Can I change the subject.....? In defence of my position as a dedicated 2-wheel fanatic (even some Triumphs, as you know.....) a pic of my home-built wide-line Manx-framed supercharged (Shorrock-2-litre) Vincent (1967). Can you believe it was street-registered....? Those were the days...... Don't have your e-mail address, though....

Unfortunately Norman, Issac did not own an E-Type

There are no "experts" here just enthusiastic owners who are willing to share their, sometimes, patchy knowledge for the common good. Out of that comes a collective although possibly subjective consensus on what may, or may not, have happened during the gestation and life of the E-Type. If you want expert opinion you need to consult an expert e.g. Phillip Porter.

Back on topic the paint Jaguar used was Bradite 'Old Gold' metallic. The company still exists in Manchester but I have spoken to them and they no longer supply automotive paints nor do they have any NOS samples to hand. I used a gold engine paint I found on eBay and it was a good match to what was left of the original. The early cars used a paint termed 'Gold' by Jaguar which was a non metallic paint and has retrospectively been called 'Pumpkin' by the Americans who know what that vegetable is but a puzzlement to us Brits (we don't have Pumpkins - Turnips, yes). "Old Gold' is a shade of Orange that is 71% saturated and 81% bright. For reference purposes, Old Gold has the hex value #CFB53B."

If you go to our Forum KB there are some suggestions on 'Old Gold' alternatives but most of the Gold engine paints on eBay, brushable or spray, will be good enough for any concours judge or your own satisfaction.

I used a 15ml. tin of Humbrol gold as used on Airfix kits.........plenty for a few coats and touch-ups and much cheapness!
