Finally purchased the car that's been waiting for me.

Original RHD, matching numbers, manual. Restored approx 4 years ago. Absolutely solid. I have a CD with 250 photos of before, during and after restoration. Unfortunately there's no provenance with the car, but I believe I can obtain a record of past owners from DVLA, so this will be a start.

Repatriated from the Czech Republic. Major undertaking driving over there and back with a truck and trailer. Stopped the night in Nurnberg the first night, albeit in the back of the truck. Second night in a motel near Frankfurt.

Brought her back home, if you like!

Just need to get the original reg back from DVLA, MOT etc. I'll see if there's any cash left in the account for some proper wheels, and a new set of tyres.

Would anybody know where I can get a front and rear registration plate made up? Thank you.

It's the right colour as well. I think that the Kent wheels look good on the car, but maybe painted back to the original spec. may look even better.

If you have before and during photos of the restoration, then that really is the provenance of the car. Once restored, it really doesn't matter if the services were done at the correct time or not! Whilst it's nice to have the full history of a car, you have the main bit.

Yes Ian, at the end of the day I was after a red one. Not sure if it's a genuine S3 red though. More like a Carmen red, albeit a tad lighter in colour.
It was an epic journey to collect it.
First night, my navigator and I had to crash in the back of his truck at a lorry park just outside Nurnberg, after a brief contact with the German police force at about midnight! All our papers were in order though.
Second night on our return with car on trailer we found more salubrious accommodation just outside Frankfurt albeit at a motel on the autobahn.
Great experience. Absolutely loved Czech Republic and Karlovy Vary in particular which was where the car has spent the last 6 yrs.

Thanks for the Framtons contact David. BTW. I believe standard plates for a 1971 is the white or silver on black/ white plate for front/rear plates.
Is there anything to stop me putting a more modern plate on the car, e.g. reflective yellow for the rear for example? Thanks.

No - a bit like changing registration marks, you can fit a later style to an early car, but not an earlier style to a later car.

Taste, obviously! Silver on black plates look so much better on a classic.

You commented on the Kent wheels on my car. I'm not familiar with these wheels and am keen to change them for some wires or chromed pressed steel wheels in due course. Were Kent wheels a feature on other Jaguars?

Yes, they were on XJS and, I think , some XJ6s in the 1980s

Marcus, they were very nearly contemporary with the S3, appearing on the XJS when it came out in 1975. I saw many E Types in period with them fitted, but haven't seen any lately. Some think they are a bit fussy, but so is some of the S3 styling, which is all part of it's appeal!

And spend an hour or two per wheel cleaning them? I tried that on the S1.....worst job ever!!!

Alright, alright.
I have actually purchased 5 chromed pressed steel wheels, that may need a little autosol to bring them up to scratch, according to the vendor. Not a bad price at ?250. Yet to receive them as I am away on leave at the moment.
I still have some funds available in the budget for some wires, so we'll see Ian.
