Several versions available of 13600mAh or above : http://tinyurl.com/lekcpr3 They are so small I was wondering if it was worth carrying one when touring. They claim it will start the car 20 times on one charge and even with a dud battery/alternator/dynamo give you sufficient juice to get you approximately 20 miles to a garage or safety.

David : I find the performance claims somewhat conflicting , in that if it would effect 20 starts on one charge, I would expect it to power your ignition for many more than 20 miles . However, as a general guide, my experience suugests it might be worthwhile. I have never tried one of these but I have a mains charger with a starting facility which provides about 250 amps , and it has never failed to start any of my cars with a flattish battery ( i.e. one providing e.g. ignition but insufficent oomph to turn the engine over ) . I also had for a year or two ( until it dies ) one of those cheap starter packs using a 17AH battery . Again, that worked
