#1 Brake disc design

Post by Kes » Wed Oct 22, 2014 8:32 pm

Hi all.
I've just had some upgraded billet callipers fitted to my S2 OTS. the mechanic said the discs on the car were of a design he's not come across before. Apparently they're a sandwich of three layers, the centre being separate from the inner and outer faces that are gripped by the disc pads. Does anyone know if these were OE fitted, or are they something that's been added at a later date?

That is the OE type. I have the impression that the centre part in fact is a round wire ring fitted in a groove at the edge of the disc, making it look like tree layers. I Think I remember seing a disc there this ring was rusted away, making the groove visible. I might be wrong here...
