#1 Malcolm Sayer celebration BBC Radio 4

Post by Heuer » Wed May 08, 2013 3:01 pm

Neville Swales (of XJ13 fame) has posted this on Jag-Lovers and I figured it may be of interest:

"The BBC have scheduled a programme celebrating the genius of the man behind the design of our cars on June 5th. I'll know the exact time a little nearer the day and will give you a heads up. I'll try to record it if anyone outside the UK is interested in hearing it. It includes interviews from Norman Dewis, Phillip Porter, Peter Wilson, Kate (and Sam) Sayer and many others - yours truly included - talking about Sayer's XJ13 of course"

After broadcast it will be available on BBC iPlayer for seven days although not for those beyond these shores. If any one wants to make an archive copy you can do so using this piece of free software: http://www.nerdoftheherd.com/tools/radiodld/ which will download the iPlayer stream and save it in mp3 format. Alternatively you can use this free software to listen live and record (although there is no scheduling option) from anywhere in the world I am told, although I can't personally test that claim. Softonic RadioSure: http://radiosure.en.softonic.com/

If you have difficulty receiving the broadcast PM me after the 5th June and I will endeavour to assist.

Very nice. Pity about the last 4 seconds, which were the wrong engine. Interesting story from Neville about the windscreen coordinates.

If anyone wants an archive copy or wants to put it on an MP3 player for listening in the car there is a downloadable (rather than click and play) version here: http://tinyurl.com/keftr3k

Interesting - but spoilt by the dreadful racket which introduced it ( and recurred once or twice ) and why did we need input from Jools Holland, whose contribution amounted to the square root of diddly squat ? As always with the BBC, a serious subject (with great contributions from the 3 ex Jaguar men ) reduced to the trivial

Yours curmudgeonly !

Christopher

The BBC are obsessed with 'the Talent' so unless you have some form of celebrity in the production it is not going to get the green light by senior management. As for the "racket" you refer to I assume you mean the Rock 'n Roll songs mentioning Jaguar?

That indeed was the racket I referred to ! I've listened to it a second time and one of the bits I particularly liked was the Mike Hawthorn sound track ( much clearer than on You tube ) with his "typical French" comments

Came across this old topic whilst idly browsing.

I agree with the comments about our friend Mr Holland! I saved the soundtrack to YouTube along with some appropriate pictures as the iPlayer version is now long gone.
