Just received an email from Richard Smith about his latest products:
"Hi David,
Can?t remember if I told you about the two parts I do for the early heater box. They are the end plate with the extra holes, bracket welded to it and the tapered rear end. I also do the matching lever which does not have the stud on it:
I also have the correct clips for retaining the Shelley jack handle to the rail in the boot floor:
Cheers,
Richard"

Great news! Richard Smith has reproduced the previously unobtainable special chrome plated Lucas screws for the side/signal lenses. These were used on all 3.8's and S1 4.2's until Lucas moved over to Phillips head screws. You will need ten per car - contact Richard direct and mention the Forum.

Richard Smith has now produced the door lock lever assembly. Originals wear badly which means you have to move the interior handle almost through 90? before the lock will operate.

I spoke to him today about the 4 way brake union I am looking for for a friend in France, he doesn't have them and it seems no one else does either.
That's something else to start reproducing then.
If anyone has one let me know please.
Dave

SNGB have now produced TRE's with articulation angles similar to those originally specified. This means there should be no 'necking' of the TRE at full extension with standard dampers. They cost ?30 + VAT pair, ?5 more than the ones with less articulation. SNGB part number is C25447U "TRACKROD PR 35 DEG":

I always get a buzz when I see an email from Richard Smith pop into my inbox but this latest one has topped all my expectations!
"Hi David, please see attached image of a few early re-conditioned jacks I have available. They are mainly new original. I have stumbled across and acquired some of the original tooling, mainly the high pressure die-casting tool for the top and the worn out patterns for the sand castings which I have had fettled. I really do want to describe them as reconditioned originals, they each come with the handle. Cheers Richard."
So if you are looking for a Shelley jack now is your chance to grab one! Incredible bit of archaeology by Richard. Everything we know about the Shelley jack is available here:

Jaguar Heritage are now producing complete (or individual parts) mild steel exhaust systems for 3.8, and S1/2 4.2 cars, including chrome tail pipes. Brilliant news as they have been made to original design and aluminised for protection. Finally, you can get that authentic E-Type sound rather than the dismal note produced by stainless steel! £650 for a complete system is very good considering the chroming of two mild steel resonators would cost you £250+:

If anyone has a set of these some feedback on fit and finish would be most appreciated.

Just to say I've a set of the front lenses supplied by Marek.
In another thread I had asked about the S2 front lenses being opaque on the lower half, Marek has now supplied a new set without that obscuring and they give a much clearer sidelight and indicator.
One easy way of improving the visibilty of our cars. Thanks Marek

Richard Smith is now offering kits to convert the later Metallifacture jack to one with the integrated handle. This means you can source a Metallifacture jack with the separate handle from a later 'E' Type, Ford Cortina, XJ6 or 2+2 and make it into one of the early versions with the addition of the square shoe, screw boss and handle.
Contact Richard if you want the kit of parts.
#15 Three way brake pipe connector for stop switch
Posted: Wed Nov 25, 2015 12:39 am
by daykrolik
Recently I searched fairly diligently, to no avail, for the brass three ? way brake fluid pipe connector (one pipe in, one pipe out and the third outlet for the stoplight switch) which mounts on the firewall of my 1967 Series 1 OTS so the stoplight switch faces forward out from the firewall at a 90? angle from the inlet and outlet pipes. Mine is still functioning, but somewhat abused, and I thought, especially since the threads are brass, it would be good to have a spare handy. I couldn't find one, although there are many three-way connectors available where all three are on the same plane. Hopefully, the attached picture will illustrate this switch. Does anyone know a source or, if not, could we encourage someone to make these?

Pilkington Classics have now produced a revised FHC windscreen based on an known and dated original screen supplied by Angus. It has been fitted to a car and unsurprisingly is an excellent fit. Part numbers are as follows:
CL= clear; GN = green
You can contact Nick Gardiner directly if you want to order one or do so via a Pilkington Classic supplier:
Nick.gardiner@NSG.Com
Pilkington Classic will use a period Triplex logo in the correct location on the screen if you ask. They can also include a radio antenna or heaters in the laminate at extra cost. All other glass is also available with discrete and period Triplex logos.
NB We recommend sourcing the rubber windscreen seal from Hutsons as we know it fits well.

SNGB are now offering the HT conduit C2451* that was used on all XK engines up to August 1964 (so almost all 3.8's) after which engine lifting brackets were fitted. They differ because they are attached to studs 2 and 5 rather than studs 2 and 4 and have not been available since the early 1960's. Originals in usable condition are almost non existent as they deteriorate due to engine heat.
Early:
Late:
Note the red colour of even this later conduit
They are an almost exact copy using dull red vulcanised fibreboard, correct rivets and redesigned brackets. The conduits were left in their native dull red colour for much of their production life but some were over painted black or produced in black fibreboard, when it became available. SNGB elected to produce these in their original dull red allowing owners to paint them black as they see fit - both colours are concours correct although few people realise the difference in stud mounting. Huge thanks to Tadek Malkiewicz for providing an original pattern and to Julian Barrett for taking the time and trouble to make this long obsolete part. They are available now

Everything you could want to know about these conduits is detailed here:
