#1 Data Plate Info & Original Paperwork / Handbooks

Post by Nickleback » Sat Feb 21, 2015 6:01 pm

Hopefully getting to view a S2 FHC 2+2 this week and have been told it is a matching numbers car ?

Clearly I want to check this out, so taking the info (car, body, engine & gearbox) on the actual data plate on the car, where do I check this info on the actual car & parts ? I will not be able to get under the car due to it's current location in a small garage (I already have the chassis & engine details from XKE Data)

Assuming that this checks out, what original paperwork / handbooks should come with the car from new if it still has them with it ?

Experian and others do a vehicle check for about ?25, even the DVLA can provide information. Although the Jaguar Heritage certificate can not be issued I believe you can ask them for a bit of information that might be of help.

Try to get someone knowledgeable to give the car a checkout, worth the cost if you are inexperienced, and make sure it will be put on a lift to see properly underneath. Just be very careful, but wishing you luck.

I found trying to read the engine numbers really difficult, even with mirrors/lights etc. Gearbox and rear axle I would think impossible without a ramp etc. My approach was (when buying my 2+2) to purchase on the understanding (written!) that it WAS matching numbers, and that recompense would be paid if a follow up service check proved it not to be.

Not so worried about the gearbox & rear axle, but do need to check the body & engine numbers against the plate

Sorry mised it out on last post....engine no on block just above oil filter, or on later cars at the back on the left bell flange..no specific body number...sometimes on a small tag behind rear number plate...Steve
