Hi, just wondered what's involved in upgrading the distributor system to electronic ignition ?
Also font wheel bearing adjustment, I'm assuming this is just done on the bearing nut , adjust till nips then back off ?

Hi Keith.....re the wheel bearings...yes as you describe....re the electronic ignition there are various types...as above the 123 is a complete replacement distributor, you pull out yuor old one and put inthe 123....there are different variations of the 123, Pertronix is a magnetic sensor and disc that fits in your existing distributor replacing the points, Luminition is also a sensor and disk replacing youe existing points....there are lots ov others but i think these are the most common replacement systemy.....suggest you google and read up on them

Agree with Chris but we have the original completely rebuilt by the Distributor Doc with Petronix. For the majority of owners, this gives the best setup; simple and effective.

#5 Electronic ignition
Fitted powerspark to mine. Replaces the points. Fit and forget. And if it does fail you can refit the points and condenser. I carry the old stuff in the boot but after three years no issues. No contacts to burn and no condenser to fail. Costs about ?40 including a new rotor arm. I have had lumenition on my MGB for 25 years and it still works fine. Check the web and see what fits your bill. The 123 system allows you to set advance curves I believe so if you want that extra bit it may be the thing but is a more costly option.
As to the front. Just nip and back a tad. You need to be able to put in the spit pin through the crown nut so if you have changed the bearing you may be wise to have a spare shim or two so the nut winds up in the right spot. If you have just stripped and cleaned it should just go straight back on.

I have the 123 in my 420 Sovereign. Put it in about ten years ago, maybe more. There wasn't a Jaguar-specific one at that time. Chose a curve close to the one needed, put it in, never looked at i again.
Be sure to have the 123-JAG, as this has the Jaguar curves preprogrammed. There is a setscrew on the bottom to set the apprppriate curve.

Thanks all
I'll upgrade to electronic ignition as well as doing the bearings soon as.
I may replace the bearings as I get good quality bearings through work.
You know there good for years to come then.
Cheers
