#1 water pipes behind the bulkhed

Post by kgb123 » Thu Jun 11, 2015 3:56 pm

OK anyone know the secret of getting the water pipes out from behind the bulkhead? Am I missing something really obvious or is this a real pain in the bum that you just keep wiggling, pushing, pulling until the pipes decide they want to come out??

Car is a series 1.5 2 +2 (actually I think it might be one of those 1.25's I've been reading about as there is a lot on the car that should be series 1) As far as i can see the only access is via the 3 openings in the bulkhead. After a lot of cuts and skinning of my hands and not so slim forearms, I thought i'd ask for help.

well, if it makes you feel any better, the really difficult bit is getting the new ones in. And its the first job you do when building up the car, followed by the wiper mechanism. I found mine came out ok, I had to push them with a block of wood from the engine side of the bulkhead and then fish them out. Getting them back in required the services of a friend who has smaller arms and hands than me, and seemed to achive it quite easily. Mine is a series one 3.8. Just keep trying and I am sure they will come out. Have you removed the wiper mechanism first?

Andrew,

They are out!! I managed to get one out and when my son came in he got stuck in and got the other two out, five pipes in all (manual only shows three) what a nightmare....

Wipers came out ok.

Looking forward to the getting back in....may pay a small child who's not busy up a chimmney to help:)

Cheers

Replace them with stainless ones when you do, and make sure the replacements are the same shape before you try putting them back in.

Thanks for the heads up Chris, I hadn't thought about it, but the vacum pipes are in better nick without the ends all corroded, should have realised but was in a bit of a body stripping frenzy!

Good pointer on the stainless suggestion Andrew, thanks.
