The 'E' Type Forum

Just finished a four year restoration the car is looking great, about to spend the winter tinkering making sure everything is perfect ready to get the most out of next year, when...

I get an email from the boss (during my week off) "big changes on the horizon" not good news. I now find I have to start planning for a worst case scenario, nothing definite yet but not looking good.
This brings me to the subject of the post I'm looking for advise on what is the best way to sell an E-Type.



Let's hope it does not come to that but I have to be prepared.

Classic cars are still making good money at the Big auctions, ie Bonhams at Goodwood Etc. Charges are a bit high but the cars do sell.

Warren, that's not a nice situation to be in.
There are quite a few on here who would give you a proper price for the car without both sides losing out to auction commission.
Look at auction sold prices to work out a sensible value for the car and then use that as a guide to sell via the forum? Might be worth a first pass and you know it'll be going to a good home.

Here's hoping it doesn't come to that

Thanks for the info I had thought about auction but never having done it I was unsure I guess this forum would probably be a good place to start.
Looking through the bills I spent over 50K and put in lots of upgrade so that the car would be very useable while retaining a standard appearance, currently insured for 100K on advise of those that have seen it, although I have no about the real value.

On the work front it looks like the best I can hope for is a 11% reduction in salary worst case 40% still trying to get an answer - Rock and a hard place. :?

Feel free to advertise it in the For Sale section Warren. The search bots visit us every few hours so anyone searching Google et al for an E-Type will quickly find it. Look for anything E-Type related nowadays and the Forum will be near the top of the results. Probably better than eBay or Auction House as long as you have a price in mind.

Sad development Warren, hope you manage to keep the car and the income.
Put here few pics of your car with some details of work done and you will receive in return pretty fair guidance about markrt price level you should expect.

My advice would be don't unless you really have to! If it does come to that then get a realistic valuation from an expert and stick to it. Good luck and so hope you keep the car. Julian

If the worst comes to the worst, have you considered selling a half share to a friend . I hope this will not be needed, but it is a possible option

Or you could consider a "trade down" exchange it for another needing work +cash.
At least then you would still have an e type, which would go some-way towards softening the blow, and the knowledge that you have already gained from restoring your car, would soon have you back on top.
