Just a quick one; should it be "E" TYPE (as per manual cover), "E" Type, 'E' Type, E-Type (as per this forum), E-type (as I have always typed it and as in the logo for this forum), or E Type? or some other combination of inverted commas, capitals, lower cases, hyphens, spaces, or does it not matter?
Although the above is the more important question for the minute, whilst writing, does anyone know why Jaguar chose to call the car an XKE in America (was there perhaps another brand of car in America called an E-type?), and by which name is it known in other parts of the world?
Third question: Is it true that in period the version we now call the series one-and-a-half (or 1.5 when typed) was sold as the series 1A, the A standing for 'America' as many of the changes between it and the series 1 were introduced to comply and cater for the American market. If so, why did it's name change over time and when did it happen?
Thanks
Andrew

Brochures produced by Jaguar in period (1966) for the UK market described the car as 'E' Type. In common with most other owners I have studiously ignored this 'official' nomenclature. Mine is an E-Type.
It is also a higly polished bucket of rust, bag of nails, mobile oil slick, skinner of knuckles, drainer of bank accounts.
And, when I drive it around where I live, it is the prettiest thing on wheels. Apart from other highly polished buckets of rust/E-Types.

Never heard of the description series 1A before, and it certainly wasn't around in the 1960s ( mind you, nor was series one and a half , or indeed series one - it was just an E type)

Think Jaguar America wanted it called the xke to continue the xk120/140/150 theme. As far as I know though the badge in the steering wheel said E-Type where ever the car was sold? Never heard of 1A. Even series 1.5 was unofficial I think.
E-Types don't rust!!! They just oxidise gently. The oil leaks keep the rust away!!!!
When I am out and about in the E we do attract attention. J
